A large residential development involved the redevelopment of rural land adjacent and a large municipal landfill in the Greater Sydney Area, New South Wales. As part of the development requirements a Landfill Gas (LFG) Risk Assessment (RA) was to be undertaken to assess the potential risks to the proposed dwellings, as well as assess potential groundwater impacts.
The LFG assessment involved a combination of spot and continuous gas monitoring on bores installed along the perimeter of the site. The data was used to undertake the LFGRA coupled with a Conceptual Site Model (CSM). This information was then in turn used to design a gas mitigation system to ensure the long-term protection of the residential dwelling adjacent the closed landfill.
