Currently there is a limited understanding across the industry in relation to hazardous ground gas (HGG), which includes landfill gas (LFG) in the broader industry context.

This limitation extends to technical and regulatory aspects, which in turn can lead to very poor outcomes. We have seen on numerous occasions where the risks have not been evaluated correctly leading to either very expensive mitigation measures being implemented which are not required, or the risk being under reported. The under reporting of risk can in turn lead to expensive retrospective mitigation measures requiring implementation.
